Closing Grimrock for now. Thanks to everyone that didn’t unfollow me during that. ;)
I purchased and downloaded the game… sometime this afternoon, I forget when. Figuring it looked immersive enough and would involve a decent amount of brainpower to keep me occupied, and I could support more indies.
With the exception of some time spent cooking and then eating, I played most of today. It did its job and kept me engrossed, and I’ve only just completed Level 3.
Had to get some hints on a couple things I just plain missed. I could probably sit here for an hour until it clicks, but meh. One small hint helps get you looking (or thinking) in the right direction and from there you can make the mental leap. If anyone is playing and needs similar hints from Levels 1-3, let me know. Pretty sure I’ve found all the secret rooms so far.
But I guess I wouldn’t know if I hadn’t, since they’re secret!
Fun game. Definitely reminds me of playing DnD. It’s harsh, but not as harsh as it could be. I don’t feel too restricted. Still moving the wrong way on occasion, and one time a spider jumped out of wtf nowhere and I jumped, so the mouse slipped and I ended up throwing my sword at the wall. But that was more amusing than anything else.
If you like old school dungeon crawlers or you like dungeon crawling in DnD then you’ll like this. As someone who played one dungeon crawler (one of the Wizardy games, forget which) a long time ago (ie I totally forgot everything about it aside from that it existed) AND is usually pretty meh about exploration, I’m digging it so far. The limitations force me to slow down, and exploration with a point is something I actually do like quite a bit. Exploration just for the sake of clearing a map has never been my thing, though.
Anyway, 15 bucks. I got mine on GoG just because they tend to support a lot of indies. I’ll play more tomorrow after work, but for now it’s bedtime.
